DENTAL GUIDE

How long does a dental implant take?

The implant may be placed during one planned appointment, but the complete treatment often includes a biological healing period and restorative stages. The total timeline depends on the site, bone quality, additional procedures and the planned final teeth.

The surgical stage

Placement time depends on the number of implants, whether teeth must be removed and whether grafting is needed. Several implants may be placed during the same visit, but same-day surgery does not automatically mean same-day permanent teeth.

Healing and osseointegration

The implant needs time to integrate with the surrounding bone. This is usually measured in months rather than days. The upper or lower jaw, bone quality, smoking, systemic health and accompanying surgery can affect the recommended healing period.

The final restoration

Digital records or impressions, try-ins and bite adjustments are completed before the final crown, bridge or full-arch restoration is fitted. The objective is a stable, cleansable and comfortable restoration, not simply filling the space as quickly as possible.
