DENTAL GUIDE

Are dental implants painful?

Dental implant surgery is commonly performed under local anaesthesia. The goal is to control pain during treatment. Tenderness, swelling or bruising can occur afterwards as part of the normal healing response, depending on the extent of surgery.

During the procedure

Local anaesthesia temporarily blocks pain in the treatment area. A patient may notice pressure, vibration or touch, but these sensations are different from pain. Discussing anxiety and previous dental experiences helps the team plan a more comfortable appointment.

The first days after surgery

Mild to moderate tenderness and swelling may occur. Medication and care instructions should be followed exactly as prescribed for the individual patient. The expected recovery differs between a single implant and more extensive surgery.

When to contact the clinic

Increasing uncontrolled pain, persistent heavy bleeding, fever, rapidly increasing swelling or unexpected numbness should be discussed with the treating team. Symptom lists found online do not replace examination or postoperative review.
